Tělák

PE (Physical Education) is a theatrical exhibition that takes visitors to places deeply etched in our collective memory: school and the gym – spaces where we become most acutely aware of our bodies, confronted by the gaze of our classmates and teachers. These places are on one hand defined by strict rules, on the other it is where we first begin to discover what our bodies can do, what they are capable of, and what they want. Am I too sensitive? Too fat? Am I good enough? Will anyone like me the way I am? – these may be familiar questions we ask ourselves there.

What you can experience

Instead of actors, the exhibition features audio recordings from real-life testimonies of adolescents and adults who are judged based on how they look, what they feel, and who they are. These are stories of repression and exclusion, but also of self-discovery, freedom, mutual respect, support, and acceptance.

The exhibition space offers a playful, theatrical experience within an imaginative environment – where objects and people are sometimes larger than they “should” be, and where we can reflect on the rules by which we judge ourselves and others, and how we define what is good enough, sufficient, or normal.

PE works with real stories and emotions. You may encounter experiences you recognize, or perspectives you have never considered before. In any case, the exhibition offers strong experience based on real-life stories.
